As we all know that first aid is the initial care given to the casualty at the time of any incident either at home, school, community, or workplace to prevent further damage
and deterioration. The first aid given in the initial hours helps to prevent the severity and future complications if given properly. Emergencies can happen anywhere and anytime all of a
sudden. So, in today's scenario, it becomes necessary for nursing students to acquire and update their first aid skills to provide better care both in hospital and community settings
based on scientific rules and the latest guidelines. The current book has been designed as an introductory textbook for first aid skills and emergency care for undergraduate nursing
students as per the revised curriculum provided by the Indian nursing council. The outline of the chapters has been done by keeping learning objectives in the mind. The language is
kept as simple as possible to make concepts understandable for students. The content of the book is divided into 11 units according to our body systems. The first 2 chapters provide
basic information about first aid and emergency care. Chapters 3-10 start with the anatomy and physiology of the respective body system and end with exercises for self-evaluation.
The content of the book is referred from various latest books and modules related to first aid from Indian and foreign authors, and research articles published in the national and
international journals in order to provide updated material. The 11 chapters deal with emergency care in different settings. The topic of first aid in COVID-19 is also included to
understand the difficulties faced by first aiders in the time of pandemic and guidelines to be followed to provide first aid.
